Begin with colors suggested by your roof and masonry. Consider the color schemes used inside your home - Exterior colors should harmonize with the interior. Don't clash with your neighbors! Choose colors that coordinate with the buildings around you. Large surfaces make paint look lighter. Consider selecting darker shades. Remember that very bright or very deep colors will fade.

Now comes the fun of really planning your new kitchen. Layout is a three-part process that includes weighing basic options; blocking out storage, countertops, and work centers; and double-checking efficient heights and clearances. There's no perfect sequence&mdashthe trick is to work back and forth. In very small or oddly shaped spaces you'll certainly need to compromise.

How well do you know your room? In order to shape and dress it, you need to know and understand your room as well as you know yourself. Go to the room you need to organize or rearrange and ask yourself these questions: What are the dimensions of your room, and what is its basic shape?  Is it square, rectangular, L-shaped? What are your room's problems? Does it have a Glossary Item ceiling that's too low? Is it overly long and narrow? Does it lack any distinguishing points? Does it have a focal point that's off-center?

Substituting fans for air conditioners can reduce energy use by 60% or more. Here are some tips: Consider installing a programmable thermostat if you do not have one. You can save as much as 10% on your cooling bill by simply turning your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees for 8 hours.
